Integrity in Hollywood?
Who Are the Christians?
How Do They Feel About Today's Entertainment Industry?
Documentary Shows History of Faith in Hollywood!

Actress/Comedian Kerri Pomarolli Part of Groundbreaking Documentary, HOLLYWOOD ON FIRE

Los Angeles, CA — On the heels of the very successful film Fireproof comes the groundbreaking documentary Hollywood on Fire. Filled with honest openness, the film reveals the successes and failures of many of today's, and yesterday's, top actors, directors, producers, music artists, executives and media based ministries who are all faith driven. Hollywood on Fire will present a different view on how Christians in the entertainment industry encounter secularist and Hollywood skeptics, yet do not compromise their faith. Criticized, yet making progress, Hollywood on Fire shows that some of the most influential in Hollywood are Christians.

One of Hollywood's faithful, actress-comedian Kerri Pomarolli, has a unique ability to make people laugh with an artistic quality that is undisputable. As is with her adherence to her Christian faith, Pomarolli's desire to not just co-exist in the entertainment industry as one of "those people" has pushed her harder to reach crossover audiences. Whether it is tolerance or acceptance, she is thrilled with the new and increasing interest Hollywood networks and studios are taking in Faith based and Family Friendly content.

Along with Jane Russell, Pat Boone, Chuck Norris, Eric Close, Natalie Grant and many others, Pomarolli and husband Ron McGehee participate in the documentary as they discuss the importance of faith in making career decisions and how being a Christian is not always popular with casting agents and producers, studios and networks. Christians in Hollywood are rallying and becoming the biggest voices in making good movies with moral lessons.

"I'm honored to be part of such an impact project. It gave me chills to sit and watch Jane Russell and other Christian forerunners in Hollywood share their stories of how God was always in this crazy and difficult town!" - Kerri Pomarolli

From Executive Producer Kevin Foster with Producer Kenny Saylors and Producer/Director Kyle Saylors, this documentary has already gained acclaim throughout the country and has been honored with The Dove Foundation’s highest rating of five doves. Hollywood on Fire is available to order now @ www.hollywoodonfire.com . The street date is February 24th, 2009.

Lucy McGehee Signs With the Prestigious Osbrink Agency

Los Angeles, CA - On October 23, 2007 a star was born, Lucy McGehee made her official entrance into the world. The minute she was born you knew she had the gift of comedic timing. After 36 hours of labor and weighing a whopping 10.6 lbs. the doctor commented, "Don't breastfeed her just bring her a pizza!"

A charismatic and intelligent child with an infectious smile, though only a year old, Lucy has traveled to almost every state in the union, been seen on national television and appeared on many stages. It's not just Lucy's cuteness that makes her stand out. Of Korean, Irish, Italian and English heritage the agents at Osbrink were entranced by her unique beauty and bubbly disposition. Walking at nine months, they were also amazed as she walked down the halls of the office greeting everyone.

Show business was already in her blood. Lucy's proud parents are famed Christian actor-comedians Kerri Pomarolli and Ron McGehee, who is also with Osbrink. Both have passed on their knack for comedy and love for the stage but plan on keeping her grounded through Christian influence and faith.

"We prayed about this and believe Lucy, whose name means Bringer of Light, can be part of our ministry to bring joy to people. At her first audition for Target she just walked up and down the aisle saying Hi to everyone. This gave me an open door to witness to other moms there", says mom Kerri Pomarolli.

"When people told us, Your kid is so cute she outta be in pictures, I guess we took it literally, says dad Ron McGehee. It's exciting to see what God will do through our whole family and we plan to keep her in the biz until she's about 3 and ready for bigger things like pre-school."

The Osbrink Agency is recognized as one of the country's leading theatrical and commercial agencies.

ABUNGA.COM HOLDS ONLINE CHATS: October Authors Include NYT Bestseller William Paul Young and HIV/AIDS Advocate Kay Warren Among Experts on Education, Family and Comedy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 25, 2008 – Abunga.com, the family-friendly bookstore, continues its weekly "Authors at Abunga" online chats in October with a variety of experts, educators and entertainers. Next month's one-hour chats, held at Abunga.com on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. EDT, will feature educational children's writer Kersten Hamilton; clean comedian, actress and writer Kerri Pomarolli; home and family management expert Kathy Peel; New York Times best-selling author of "The Shack," William Paul Young; and international HIV/AIDS advocate Kay Warren, respectively.

"The Abunga.com author chats continue to provide a wide array of topics for all audiences," said Lee Martin, Abunga.com chairman. "We are pleased to not only provide the books of these popular authors on Abunga.com, but to provide a way for readers to directly connect with them through our author chats." Kay Warren, wife of Rick Warren of "The Purpose Driven Life," was a typical, southern California soccer mom and preacher's wife until 2002, when she was seriously disturbed one day after picking up a magazine highlighting the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa and the millions of children orphaned by the pandemic. From that day on, she chose to "dangerously surrender" her life and step out of her comfort zone. Today, she is an international HIV/AIDS advocate, speaker and author of "Dangerous Surrender: What Happens When You Say Yes to God." It is an honest look at the biases, blatant lies and self-justified lack of compassion that prevent so many from facing not just HIV/AIDS, but whatever burdens are placed in their immediate sphere of influence. Warren will chat at Abunga.com on Oct. 29. For information, visit www.KayWarren.com.

The New York Times No. 1 best-seller, "The Shack," has taken the reading world by storm. Author William Paul Young, a Canadian-born son of missionaries, wrote the novel as a personal story for his six children, and never intended it to be for public consumption. But since its debut on the market, "The Shack" has sky-rocketed to success amidst praise and controversy. "The Shack" tells the fictional redemptive story of Mackenzie Allen Phillips, whose daughter is tragically abducted during a family vacation. Shortly after, evidence of her murder is found in an abandoned shack. Four years later, Phillips receives a note, supposedly from "God," inviting him back to the shack. Accepting the offer, against his better judgment, Phillips experiences an encounter that will forever change his life. Young will chat at Abunga.com on Oct. 22. More information available at www.TheShackBook.com.

Millions of readers and journalists have deemed Kathy Peel, who will join Abunga.com on Oct. 15, as "America's Family Manager." Founder and CEO of Family Manager Coaching and author of more than 20 books, Peel has helped households create happy, low-stress homes, simplify schedules, build strong family teams and conquer clutter. "The Busy Mom's Guide to a Happy, Organized Home," her newest book, provides necessary information for succeeding in the everyday tasks and special occasions involved in motherhood. In addition, Peel offers easy-to-use charts, trusted advice and essential Web resources for keeping a family's life straight. Visit www.FamilyManager.com for more information.

Kerri Pomarolli discovered her gift and love for making people laugh at the young age of two and hasn't stopped since. Today, Pomarolli stands out among the crowd as a clean comedian making her rounds in the comedy club circuit. She is also an accomplished actress, published author and veteran of television with credits that include 28 appearances on NBC's "The Tonight Show," "Comedy Central," recurring roles on "Port Charles" and "Young and the Restless," and Lifetime Network. In her newest book, "Guys Like Girls Named Jennie," Pomarolli takes a humorous look at being single in today's world using her own personal experiences from looking for Mr. Right. She will join Abunga.com on Oct. 8. For more information, visit www.kerripom.com.

Kersten Hamilton has a passion to bring joy to children through her writing but also desires to provide parents resources to use these books to teach impactful life lessons. Hamilton is author of 29 books for preschoolers through pre-teens including the "Caleb Pascal and the Peculiar People" series, "Red Truck," "The Butterfly Book" and the "Millie Keith" series. In addition, she provides educational resources such as art projects, science experiments and games on her Web site to turn her books, "This is the Ocean" and "Firefighters to the Rescue," into important lessons. Hamilton will chat at Abunga.com on Oct. 1. For additional information, visit her Web site, www.kerstenhamilton.com.

"These weekly chats give the platform for authors to share knowledge and creativity with people all over the world," Martin said. "We hope many people will take advantage of this opportunity and join us for these unique online conversations."

All chats are hosted at Abunga.com/AuthorsatAbunga. One week prior to each, readers can visit the chat Web page to submit questions. Questions are also accepted during chats. Transcripts of all chats are posted at Abunga.com/archives.

Abunga.com is an online bookstore founded to provide families a protected shopping environment. Headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., Abunga.com offers safety with more than 1.8 million family-friendly titles; savings through distributor-direct prices and support to nonprofit organizations by donating 5 percent of each transaction to a customer-selected charity. Comic Steps It Up Christian Comedienne Actress Kerri Pomarolli Gets Nod For Film ENGAGED

Los Angeles, CA ~ September 8, 2008 ~ Making waves at building a better Hollywood, Christian actress Kerri Pomarolli tapped as one of the leads in the upcoming film ENGAGED. Pomarolli proves her acting chops in this coming of age comedy. The film focuses on the engagement of Pomarolli's character, Eden, but the story is very cleverly told by the black sheep middle sister Beatrice (Amanda Fuller). ENGAGED is a story that challenges cultural and religious stereotypes, as two families meet for the first time at an engagement party. The film leads to both comical and bitter antagonism as Eden announces, during a family toast, that she is no longer getting married.

Writer Claire Yorita Lee has worked on numerous TV shows and pilots including NBC's Medium. ENGAGED is a passion project for her, combining her love for Christ, comedy and community.

Directed by Dean Miyahira, the cast also includes Amanda Fuller (CSI, Without a Trace, 7th Heaven), Patty Toy Chung (NYPD Blue, Mad About You, Chicago Hope), as well as some very talented newcomers.

Kerri Pomarolli's successes have not gone unnoticed by secular media. She regularly makes television appearances on ABC, ABC Family, CBS, NBC, FOX, Comedy Central, Lifetime, Hallmark Channel, CBN, CNN, Oxygen and many more. She's appeared on The Tonight Show over 28 times, published 3 books, writes an award winning column and is a contributing writer for many national magazines. Her book Guys Like Girls Named Jennie (formally known as If I'm Waiting on God, Then What Am I Doing In A Christian Chatroom?: Confessions of a Do-It-Yourself Single) was just released by Zondervan and is also being considered as a romantic comedy movie.

ENGAGED is set to hit the festival circuit with a scheduled premiere at CINERGY 2008 held at the Japan America Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on November 1, 2008.

ENGAGED is scheduled to start shooting in Los Angeles September 13, 2008.

East Valley Life

Christian comedian finds her mission in God's sense of humor

By Lawn Griffiths, Tribune

December 13, 2004

Christian comedian Kerri Pomarolli confesses she's been praying for singer Britney Spears "to get into the news again so I can get more work" portraying the haphazard singer in skits on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno."

During some of her more than 25 appearances on Leno, Pomarolli portrayed President Bush's daughter Jenna, as well as skater Tonya Harding, Jay's prom date, and other characters.

"I love playing Jenna Bush," she said. "Those were hilarious, except that Jenna Bush didn't think they were hilarious and asked Jay to stop making fun of her." Those parodies ended. Still, every couple of months, Pomarolli is back in a "Jaywalking" sketch or some other zany spot. Pomarolli, a veteran of comedy clubs and rigorous training in the Second City comedy troupe, will do stand-up Christian humor in a show at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Scottsdale Bible Church. Joining her will be film veteran (now "Fear Factor" star) Stephen Baldwin and clean comic/musician Matt Jernigan.

From 1 to 3 p.m. that day, Pomarolli will be at Jesus Chapel Discount Bookstore, 8029 E. Roosevelt St., Scottsdale, signing copies of her new book, "If I'm Waiting on God, Then What Am I Doing on the Christian Chatroom?"

Pomarolli, along with veteran Hollywood actor Garrison "Gary" Hershberger ("Six Feet Under"), founded Act in Faith, a drama ministry.

"Gary and I decided one day that we wanted to start doing Christian drama that was really good, really excellent and that could use our talents that we had developed in Hollywood," Pomarolli said. "We have a passion for Hollywood, a heart for Christ, and we don't think that Christian entertainment should be mediocre."

The two appear at marriage conferences, retreats and prayer gatherings to apply their acting skills in dramas and skits they have written to illustrate moral situations.

There's plenty of room for rip-roaring humor in the serious business of faith, she said.

"If you look at my love life, you will see that God has a sense of humor," said Pomarolli, whose stand-up work and writings get immense mileage out of her being a hard-luck single woman. "I think God has the biggest sense of humor of anyone around, and it is my job to point those things out." The comic draws from everyday life and intentionally stays clear of bawdy humor. Pomarolli lines up under the "clean comedy" banner so "you can take your 6-year-old niece and your grandmother to the same show, and nobody is complaining about the content, no one is walking out angry, nobody is putting their hands over their heads, trying to get under the table."

"I call myself a comedian who happens to be a Christian," she said. Her religious preference is "just plain old Christian." She grew up in Dearborn, Mich., "mildly involved with God in my life." Her Web site (www.kerripom.com) says she was making people laugh at 2. Her mother sent her to dance classes, where she thrived until she was diagnosed with scoliosis at 11, underwent surgery and had two metal rods placed in her back. A ballet career tanked, she turned to acting and won the lead role in a Lillian Hellman play, "The Children's Hour."

On her way to earning a fine arts degree at the University of Michigan, Pomarolli performed in classical theater in Italy, sang in a Greek operetta and spent a summer studying at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York. She trained and performed at the British American Drama Academy in London. From there, she went to Los Angeles to polish her acting and completed the rigorous two-year program of Second City.

"Second City was one of the first times in my life that God had really called me to be more open about my faith," she said. "So I was really known as the 'Christian,' and that was really hard sometimes because it is not easy when everyone is really into raunchy humor. They were always testing me to see how far I would go, to see if I would cave."

Pomarolli said she regularly prayed "for all the kids a Second City," noting a personal triumph when one young actor joined a church and credited it to her Christian witness.

The "brilliant comedians at Second City" are "the very best," she said, but she grew troubled. "I really felt like I was losing out. It was a losing battle for me because things were getting so dirty — I just couldn’t be part of those things anymore."

In the late 1990s, she stepped off on her own and now tries to balance her work in comedy clubs and churches, her Act in Faith drama plus TV and film. Pomarolli is also promoting a new CD, "Comedy Without Compromise," subtitled "Clean Comedy Has Never Been So Hilarious." It also features comedian Bone and Sherri Shepherd, both of ABC’s "Less Than Perfect." "My goal is to stay and fight for what I believe, just like everybody is fighting for theirs," she said. "I believe we need to stay, we need the Mel Gibsons, the Jim Caviezels ('The Passion of the Christ') ... whoever, to stand our ground because if I just stay in the churches, what good am I doing?"

Kansas City Star

This Christian walks into a club …

Comedian keeps it clean in challenging surroundings

By MONIQUE NEWTON The Kansas City Star

A self-proclaimed “good” girl, Christian actor-converted-to-comic Kerri Pomarolli performs what might be called bash-free humor.

As an actress, Pomarolli had a recurring role as Kathy on the ABC soap “Port Charles,” as well as other roles on television and film. She is also a stage veteran who has performed in more than 75 theater productions, including “The Thompsons,” “Godspell” and “The Next Big Chill.” As a comedian, she has appeared on Comedy Central and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

With her comedy career going, she has also turned author. Pomarolli reveals her experiences as a single Christian woman in If I'm Waiting on God Then What Am I Doing on the Christian Chatroom: Confessions of a Do-It-Yourself Single, due in bookstores later this year.

Before performing next weekend in Independence, Pomarolli agreed to answer a few quick questions from The Star.

Q. When did you begin doing Christian comedy?

A. It was a few years ago when I was working as a film and TV actress doing soap operas and stuff. … I felt that as a Christian I was being compromised. I prayed one day … and God really gave me the idea to do standup. I started doing standup comedy, and Christianity is a big part of who I am, so it's not something I really planned. God had it in mind for me that Christians had to be in the clubs.

What is the hardest part of being a Christian comedian?

Well, sometimes I get to the clubs, and the comics that are dirty are on stage before me. It's hard to be the only Christian comedian in a club because it's spiritually depressing for me. And I have to follow the guy that bashes Christian comics. When I go out to the bars and the clubs and Christ is nowhere to be seen, it is very difficult sometimes.

I would ask that the Christians around the country pray for us Christian comics because we feel that this is our mission and we feel called to be here.

How do you avoid mean or humiliating comedy, which is so popular today?

I'm not mean and humiliating offstage, so why would I be mean and humiliating onstage? My tag line is, “We good girls get crazy, too — we run with scissors” just to break the ice … I'm not out to insult anybody.

Do you have any favorite non-Christian comedians?

Well, Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and Tracey Ullman.

To reach Monique Newton, call (816) 234-4897 or send e-mail to mnewton@kcstar.com.

Comedian Kerri Pomarolli will perform at 8 p.m. June 24 at Rick West Theater, 13801 E. 42nd Terrace, Independence. Tickets: $20.50 in advance, $22.50 at the door. For more: (816) 478-9100.

March 28, 2005

Los Angeles, CA ~ Kerri Pomarolli’s representatives have announced that she will become a new published author with Zondervan Publishing.

Pomarolli first self published her book in August 2004 with much success but due to her hectic touring, media requests, public speaking and ministry it became too demanding for her to be her own publisher. “We love discovering new voices, and Kerri impressed us with a humorous and authentic treatment of the single life – a subject that has become a popular topic for today’s young adults,” said Lyn Cryderman, Vice President and Publisher of Books at Zondervan.

Zondervan will release the book nationally and internationally adding more depth with extended versions of each chapter and stories of Pomarolli’s true-life dating tactics. This is not a “how to find a man” book but a heartfelt look at looking beyond personal desires while searching for true love in the midst of her journey to find God’s plan.

This book lives up to its title, “If I Am Waiting On God, Then What Am I Doing On The Christian Chatroom?; Confessions of A Do It Yourself Single” a fresh perspective on Christian Singleness. This book is a must read that will inspire those who are frustrated with society’s expectations of Christian dating. It will take the reader through a humorous and sometimes heartbreaking journey of Pomarolli’s search for Mr. Right. The book gives biblical inspiration with a comical and honest look at the dating scene through the eyes of a Christian woman. Outreach Comedy
Stand-Up Comedian
Kerri Pomarolli

Quirky, Spunky... Just Hilarious!

Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

I was brought up by a Presbyterian mom from Alabama and a Yankee Catholic dad from Michigan. We lived in Detroit then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I was the only Italian kid in the Dutch Reformed Christian School and going to mass on Sundays... very confusing but great for my material later in life! Ironically my schools just had me back for being a "role model" to do comedy and talk about my book HA! (They thought I was nuts when I went there, and couldn't wait to get me out!)

When and how did you become interested in being a standup comedian?

I was working in Hollywood as an actress doing TV and film and it got harder and harder as a Christian to find good roles. Not only that, but I felt like I had to find a way to be more effective for God's kingdom onstage as well as off. One day as I was praying I heard the words "Stand-Up Comedy!" I said "NO WAY," but ya can't argue with God, and He always wins. I said "Yes," and away we went... the two of us making jokes for Jesus and it's been a wild rollercoaster ever since.

How did you become a Christian?

Well I always knew Jesus, but I basically told God I'd win my Academy Award and mention His name. It wasn't till about 5 years ago that I turned over my life outside of acting and comedy to Him completely--I learned to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. I found a little Four Square church that preaches the Word and had potlucks, and I was sold. I never looked back and when God became my true love instead of Hollywood or the pursuit of a husband, everything else fell into place.

What's your favorite thing about being a comedian?

I get to say whatever I want and it's usually ok because I have a mic in my hand, and people are under the impression they have to listen to me! Also, I love outing my other's issues of parenting to the world!

What are some of your current struggles and triumphs?

Definitely having a southern mom who's obsessed with me getting married has been cause for great strain but even better material. I ended up writing this book about my struggle as a single woman called "If I'm Waiting On God Then What Am I Doing on the Christian Chatroom? Confessions of a Do It Yourself Single!"

I couldn't find a book where people were real about what it's like to be single today, and wanted to know what God says about it. Most authors wrote "I didn't get married till I was 17 and I'm so glad I waited!"

I just started writing these stories, and then 4 years later it was picked up by Zondervan publishing and people all over the country are responding to my crazy neurotic stories. It's crazy because I was terrified to be so "out there" with my failures but I believe that is what God wanted me to do so others could know that...
A. We're all a little crazy, and
B. We're not alone!

How do you see the Lord moving through your Comedy?

I want the world to know we Christians can laugh at ourselves too... whether I'm in a church, club or corporate show, I do the same act. God has called me to be bold about being a Christian and the non-Christians are fascinated by my life because they don't expect to see me out there at the bar with them after a show. But that's exactly where I've had some of my best conversations about Christ. One of my comedian friends became a Christian and I know part of that was him talking to me and other Christians right where he was... and that was not in a church setting.

Where do you see yourself in the next ten years?

Married Married Married... please God, married and with kids so my mom doesn't kill me! I see God bringing back more TV and film opportunities now even though I gave that up to Him. That was killer I had to pray "Lord if I never act again then that's ok." But now I see He has a place for me as a Christian in Hollywood, but now He calls the shots and there won't be any compromise. He's really saying "We have to do this all or nothing Kerri... no lying about your age... you're not 18 anymore honey!"

What's your favorite Bible verse and why?

Isaiah 53 where it talks about how persecuted Jesus was. When I feel like the world hates me or feel rejected, God quickly reminds me His own son was rejected first and "led like a lamb to the slaughter," and why should I think I'm any better than Jesus? It 's my honor to stick up for Him.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I have a serious email addiction even though I'm not on the chatrooms anymore. It's pretty bad I have to find some support group... maybe they meet online? I love to try to be domestic and pretend I cook.

My two favorite toys are my computer for email and my cell phone because I suppose you could say I need validation quite a bit!

What's you're all time favorite gig?

I performed for a Christian women's convention up in northern California once. It was outside with 400 women, and in the middle of my act the power went out... pitch black... not only that, but this huge horse of a dog ran out onto the stage. I just told all the closet smokers to get out their lighters and let's go on with the show. Some did and some got flashlights and lamps and we rocked out! I never laughed so hard at one of my own shows, but it was this crazy night and these ladies were just hilarious.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I started out doing Christian comedy in clubs until I found out they would let me do it in churches and I found out that was a world where people really would get "our jokes!" I appreciate churches taking the risk to try comedy and the way God is growing this ministry by leaps and bounds. I'm appreciative of the veteran comics that have taken the time to mentor me and share their wisdom. It's much different than Hollywood and people have taken me under their wing to help me and other newer comics grow. That has been amazing!
